About Kickboxing/MMA Classes
Muay Thai and MMA training at Zenith Authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will focus on body and mental conditioning. Our training regimen is designed to give you the highest level of fitness and toughness achievable by you as an individual. We include the full range of combat sport conditioning exercises such as shadowboxing, rope jumping, body weight resistance exercises, stability ball exercises, abdominal/core exercises, speed training, and flexibility training.
Our students will train with Thai pads, focus mitts, and will engage in light sparring exercises. The training will include many rounds (3-5 minute periods broken up by a short rest, often 1 minute) of these various methods of practice. Grappling drills will be introduces as the student progresses
Thai pad training will be the cornerstone of your Muay Thai conditioning and will involve practicing punches, kicks, knees, and elbow strikes with a partner wearing thick pads which cover her or his forearms and hands. These special pads are used to absorb the impact of the strikes you throw at the pad holder.
Focus mitts will be used to help increase your hand speed, master punch combinations, improve your timing, punching power, defense, and counter-punching and may also be used to practice elbow strikes.
Light sparring will be introduced as a mean to test your technique, skills, range, strategy, and timing against a partner. Sparring will allow light to medium contact because we do not want our students to risk injury by sparring hard. Specific tactics and strategies will be trained with sparring including in close fighting, clinching and kneeing only, cutting off the space, or using reach and distance to keep an aggressive fighter away.
Finally, we will teach you how to blend your striking and clinching skills with our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu take-downs and submissions.
